Silver Gray is a versatile, easy-to-wear color that's a great fit for anyone new to men's kimono. As a mid-tone that's neither too bold nor too plain, it pairs well with almost any haori or obi color, which is part of why it's often chosen as a first kimono.
The fabric is Teijin's high-performance polyester, Silpearl. Both the weaving and the dyeing take place in Fukui Prefecture, so the kimono is dyed and tailored entirely within Japan. It has the characteristic smooth, breathable feel of tsumugi along with just enough texture that the collar and hem hold their place well when dressing, helping the kimono stay neat throughout the day. Since it's machine-washable, it's an easy piece to reach for as an everyday men's kimono.
Pairing it with a haori or obi
Silver Gray works well with both darker and lighter haori. A black or navy haori gives a sharper, more formal-leaning look, while an off-white or other light-colored haori feels warmer and more approachable. It's also an easy color to pair an obi with, whether you keep things subdued or use the obi as a pop of color.
Ways to wear this kimono
- As a comfortable, everyday men's kimono for casual wear
- As a versatile first kimono for those new to wearing one
- Paired with a haori as a kimono and haori set
- Tailored to hakama length (knee-length) for those who wear it under hakama
- As a gift for Father's Day, birthdays, and other occasions
Choosing your tailoring and size
Tailoring options include a lined (awase) or unlined (hitoe) finish, sleeve style (standard kimono sleeve or tube sleeve), and length (standard kimono length or hakama length), so you can match it to how you plan to wear it. Tailoring as a haori is also available.
This fabric is approximately 42cm wide and 12.5m long, which accommodates a sleeve length (yukatake) of up to about 80cm. In addition to ready sizes 1 through 5, we also offer fully custom sizing (please note your measurements in the comment field). If your sleeve length exceeds about 80cm, please consider one of our larger-size kimono instead.
If you're unsure which option fits you best, please see our size table or tailoring and measuring guide, or feel free to contact us and let us know your build and how you plan to wear it.

Q. Can I wash this at home?

Q. I'm new to kimono — is Silver Gray easy to coordinate?
A. Yes. Silver Gray pairs well with almost any haori or obi color, which makes it a great choice if this is your first men's kimono.
Q. I'm concerned the ready sizes won't fit my build. Can I order a custom size?
