
竹・葦・檜皮などを細かく薄く削って、斜め・縦・横に編んだものを網代といいます。天井・垣・屏風・牛車の屋形、笠、団扇〈うちわ〉などに、広く使用されていますが、着物の文様としても好まれ、染織品の地紋などによく用いられます。
Ajiro refers to a weave made by finely shaving bamboo, reeds, or cypress bark into thin strips and weaving them diagonally, vertically, and horizontally. It is widely used for ceilings, fences, folding screens, ox-cart roofs, hats, and fans. It is also favored as a pattern for kimonos and is often used as a ground pattern for dyed textiles.
